EIFEL NATURE CENTER IN NETTERSHEIM
The Eifel Nature Center in Nettersheim is a supra-regional center for environmental education with exhibitions on nature and history. Since 1989, it has been bringing people closer to the natural and historical treasures of the Eifel with its museum and events. The topics covered are based on the geological, historical and ecological diversity of the natural and cultural landscape of the Eifel. The central task of the Eifel Nature Center is environmental education work and focuses on extracurricular environmental education and adult education. The educational concept of “understanding through experience” enables pupils, interested laypeople and experts to take part in both experience-oriented and technically sound events. Ideal for school trips (various overnight accommodation options are available) or group excursions, but also with the family or on your own: various indoor and outdoor theme worlds offer something suitable for everyone. In the Eifel Nature Center you will find exhibitions in the main building such as the coral reef aquarium, energy & climate, forest & wood, life in the countryside (barn), Roman road information center with permanent archaeological exhibition (here you can get active yourself: the Roman hand mill, game tables, an archaeology quiz and a Mix-Max bring archaeology and history to life), as well as the national park information point and tourist information. Behind the main building you can discover a species-rich traditional farm garden and a Roman garden. The House of Fossils is in the immediate vicinity, as are restored lime kilns, a historic flour mill and a tavern in the historic workhouses (open on Sundays and public holidays). The Eifel Nature Center is the starting point of the Dandelion Adventure Trail with its 20 adventure stations (circular route approx. 5.5 km) and the Nettersheim Archaeological Landscape Park (circular route approx. 4.5 km) with 8 exciting stations.
