Historic moated castle in the Eifel
Satzvey Castle is a Medieval moated castle It dates back to the 12th century and is located on the north-eastern edge of the Eifel in Mechernich - just 15 minutes from Bad Münstereifel.
Satzvey Castle is known for its original building fabric as the best preserved moated castle in the Rhineland. The castle house, the double-towered gatehouse, the north wall and the north tower are the oldest parts. They have existed for over 600 years and, with the structural alterations of the late 19th century, form a typical German moated castle.
Regular events such as knights' festivals, the Fantasydays, historical bazaars as well as seasonal markets and festivals, medieval gastereyes, music events, theater performances, stage shows and special events for children attract visitors to the castle grounds every year.
